Just wondering what some people's favourite moments or scenes from the series were...here are some of mine: Cassidy telling Fitz he is innocent in ODALWF. Fantastic scene, especially the look on Fitz's face when he realises Cassidy is telling the truth. And just awesome scriptwriting by McGovern, the way it just all turns with Fitz realising the mistake he and the police have made. Fitz handing Albie the jiffy bag in TBAS, and Albie's subsequent speech before opening it. Also features Fitz at his arrogant best. Albie: "That smile is going to be wiped off your face you smug arrogant bastard!" Fitz in the confessional in BL. "I drink too much, I smoke too much, I gamble too much. I AM too much." Great as well the way he then turns it around to accuse Michael Harvey of murder too. Bilborough's death scene - not easy to watch, but so well done - particulary the short use of silence when Albie stabs him. Fitz trying to persuade Sean to walk out of the house and give himself up at the end of TSILY, although to be fair all of Fitz's scenes with Tina and Sean in TSILY are great. Fitz's mothers funeral in BL (in particular his scenes with Danny in the pub afterwards). Superbly acted by Coltrane. Fitz telling Beck "You need a thesauras" after Beck's repetitive use of the word "Bollocks". ;D I have always loved the way Fitz looks down on Beck somewhat contemptously, but that scene in particular always make me laugh. Penhaligon turning up at Fitz's house in MSW to find Judith is back and pregnant. Still such a wonderfully acted and intense scene, not to mention the awkward exchanges between Fitz and Judith towards the end of it. The scene between Fitz and Panhandle in the kitchen in TBC. "I think I love you". "You bastard! You've got the cheek to say a think like that!". Definitely my favourite scene between the two from the series. OK, I'll stop there....I could go on forever otherwise!

Oh, Goodness...there are so many:
The entire Fitz/Albie give and take in the interogation room in TBAS " the betrayed and the despised" "this country is going to blow, and its people like me who will lighthe fuse" (I bet that line was on Fitz's lips after the blast that so brilliantly ends that episode.)
Penhaligan pouring water over Fitz's head in TSILY..and his quip to the waiter as he tries to remain calm .."Anglo-Saxon Foreplay...go home and start without me."
Fitz trying to convince Bilborough that they may have made a mistake with Cassiday in ODALWF...Fitz shows a real panic at the realization and Robbie Coltrane captures it so well.
Albie to his wife about his looks ('its how I feel") in the little council flat kitchen...Albie was such a tragic character. Robert Carlyle pulled that anguish out of this character in a way that was almost mezmerizing. At times I wanted to weep for him, but his actions drove him further from sympathy.
The bumbling plumbers in TBAS
so many scenes are flashing through my head right now, hard to sort out the best....I shall post agian.

The one were Fitz threw the "For sale" pole like a javelin throught the windscreen of the car when Judith drove away gave me a hiccup-heart attack of laughing.
Especially the very *cool* answer from Judith: "Not anymore Fitz, I'll sent you the bill"
That remark gave away they were way ahead of throwing things at each other after years of throwing things at each other ;D

Fitz trying to convince Bilborough that they may have made a mistake with Cassiday in ODALWF...Fitz shows a real panic at the realization and Robbie Coltrane captures it so well. The Bilborough/Fitz scenes were always good - there was always a great tension between the two. I really like the one in TBAS too where Bilborough has just reluctantly re-hired Fitz and they have that small run-in. "Is there anything else you need?" "Yeah there's a guy called Cassidy serving life for a crime he didn't commit..." and Fitz's comment about gas ovens and six million burning corpses to Bilborough's claim he was just "doing his job". Panhandle losing it in TSILY after Giggs has been killed is another scene I really like, "Lets hear him say it! We're the ones who've lost a friend but to hell with that because Dr. Fitzgerald wants to say I told you so!". There really are so many scenes...and I love the fact there are some humorous moments to counteract the dramatic stuff. I do agree about the plumbers too and the restaurant scene, Tod. Best funny line in the entire series though has to be: Wise: "He's lying there like a cabbage" Fitz: "Well he can't be that bad if he's doing impressions" ;D

I know I've waxed lyrical about it before, but Beck's suicide really is one of the most gut-wrenching scenes I've ever seen on a television show ever! The direction is just perfect - slow motion can often be tacky and unnecessary, but here it complements the action beautifully. As you watch Beck and the other guy fall slowly and inevitably to their deaths, you almost feel as if you are falling with them. And the way that all sound is drowned out until all you can hear is the wind blowing. And that heart-breaking moment when a single shoe lands soundlessly on top of a police car. And the way the first thing you hear afterwards is Penhaligon's tearful wailing. Just brilliant! Also special mention has to go to the scene in TBAS, in which Albie stabs Bilborough. I love the way that the director deliberately turns down the sound so you can't hear the bayonet enter the body - it's such a simple trick but so effective, it makes Bilborough's subsequent agony all the more painful to watch. Who says television can't be as effective as film? Oh, and best comedy moment....... JUDITH: I want you to join Gamblers Anonymous. FITZ: It's run by wankers for wankers. GRAHAM: I'm head of the local branch. FITZ: I rest my case.

Almost every scene in "To Be A Somebody", but in particular...
The part where Penhaligon catches Harriman leering at her legs during a briefing, and she hikes her skirt even further.

Beck was a fantastic character, even if he was not very likeable. And he was sorely missed in the last two stories of the third series. The build up in general to Beck's suicide was great too, with his hyperventilating, his confession to Fitz about the rape....and I always liked the way McGovern had him as the officer who finally arrested Maggie Harvey. "Nice one, Jimmy" as Wise says - kind of showing that maybe he was never all bad and at heart just wanted to be a good copper, but he just got very very f**ked up along the way.

Yeah, that's really funny but my favorite funny moment is from TBAS - do you remember this? [At a supermarket checkout] Old Woman: Execuse me... eight items! Fitz: I have eight items! Three bottles of whiskey constitutes ONE ITEM! 2 loaves of bread constitutes ONE ITEM! 6 frozen lasagnas constitutes ONE ITEM! Old Woman: SIX? Fitz: Two dozen eggs constitutes ONE ITEM . . . Old Woman: Security! Fitz: Four steak and kidney bastard pies constitutes ONE ITEM! [Security is called] Fitz: Oh, for God's sake . . .

There are so many, but one I like is at Jimmy's funeral where JImmy's sister talks about making an impact, we all know that as a rule Fitz could not let a punning opportunity go by untouched, we see the words forming in his head about how Jimmy's finale act made an impact on the pavements of Manchester, we know him so well by now we don't have to hear it to laugh. So Jimmy's sister gets a polite (non response) and we get to laugh anyway.

And now I remember it I'm pretty fond of the scene (in TBASB) where Fitz having seen chochroach powder on sale in the little corner shop goes off on a little "If no one ever poisons a coachroach do they really exist" number, on the basis that we only ever see the things when they are dead. -Let them live and we'll never see the ugly things.
I also like the Fitz notion that if you must jump off a roof to commit suicide, don't pick one that's uneccessarily high. If you change your mind on the way down your last moments will be very unpleasant ones!
And Wise, "In twenty years on the job I've seen some pretty ugly sights", "the victim", "no you you hungover bastard"
And is it? after little Jimmy is born, "how are things going?" "you know, sleepless nights, burping, farting, breast obsession" "yes but hows the baby doing?"
(the auto censor really stuggles with those little black insects with legs, no wonder those pious yanks call them roaches)

I love this show, in fact I am in love with Fitz. I never thought I'd fall for a drinkin, smokin, gamblin man but the man is so incredible.
Anyway, I had a question about a quote:
In "Lucky White Ghost" Fitz gazes longingly into the Ritz Hotel mini bar, puts on a brogue and asks rhetorically "is weakness an opporunity or is opporunity a weakness? Sit on the bed and we'll discuss".
Is this from a James Bond film? He sounded just like Sean Connery when he said it.

Top of my head,
Beck going mad at the Scottish guy, 'You're a DC, and I'm a DI, don't even try it' - before he went off to kill himself in Brotherly Love.(And indeed many scenes where Beck get's pissed off)
Fitz talking to mark at the fast food place and Fitz interviewing the suspect to find out where Mark is in True Romance. Bill behind the garden of his nearly-adoptive parents with Grady talking about his past and not being fostered.
Final scene in 'To say I love you'
I'm obsessed with this show.

In True Romance, when Wise realises that Fitz is responsible for getting him kicked out of his house, because Wise's wife Renee has been one of Fitz's patients,Wise just stares at Fitz 'it was you!','£50 quid an hour'-'up yer arse mate!,sling yer hook!,go on,do one!'-priceless!

In no order of preference
The chase from the store with Albie Kinsella and Bilborough after the assault on Catriona and back to his home.
'Get that sleeper out of here now'. (Stuart Grady has an unwelcome guest, Best Boys)
Beck and David Harvey on the top of the building and his admission to Penhaligon.
When Fitz's brother says 'I only wanted to know what it felt like to be him', in the casino
Bobby Harriman on the rocking horse for Bilborough's baby and Beck comes in and goes ballistic.
The Beck and Albie talk at his home. (I've got cancer, and taking the newspaper cuttings down from the wall)
When Fitz and Penhaligon invade Kenneth Trant's church service and the shock photos are distributed.
When Penhaligon tells DCI Wise that Jimmy Beck raped her.
Whenever Floyd Malcolm went into the job center and did his Jamaican accent.
When Albie tells Claire Moody (after she tells him she will do anything for him and even jump in the rear seat) - 'what do you think I am? You dirty, filthy pregnant dog !'
When Beck is attacked by the Falklands veteran and Penhaligon waits to call for help.
Whenever DCI Bilborough and DS Beck are having an arguement.
