In a recent interview with The Guardian, Jimmy McGovern voiced his feelings about last year's one-off Cracker special. www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,2202965,00.html I guess this rules out any future outings for Fitz...

Thanks so much for the link, I'll hopefully try and post this on the main site in the next few days, it's the first time i've really read anything from Jimmy McGovern commenting on the special since it was screened. It's hard not to agree with him - and the series should probably be left alone now. But I don't think the apparent failure of the episode last year was solely down to the idea that maybe Fitz doesn't fit with this day and age now. Fitz being older, or a Grandad now, or anything like that was never the problem for me as a fan of the series. 10 years on that was always going to be the case. I thought Kenny worked as a pretty good Cracker criminal but overall the episode felt way too short and rushed, there wasn't enough Fitz, no Panhandle, no feeling of a connection to the original series, all new coppers, weird new opening credits...it just didn't feel like "Cracker"
