Hi there,
I am a huge fan of the Cracker series. Here in Germany they showed it some years ago. Unfortunately they never showed a rerun but I've been given the DVD box set with all the episodes on christmas. Yeah! [Unfortunately no subtitles - not even english ones. But then again it improves my English...]
I'm amazed that in the Top Ten The "Best Boys" Episode is on the 9th place. It absolutely is my favourite episode because I think the story between the two killers is so gripping. They are driven to these murders more or less by accident. And oonce they've begun they can't stop it. The story and especially the ending is no less than tragic - and I have to admit I cried really hard when I watched it a few days ago...
Anyway - thanks for the great website and let's all hope that there really will be another series!!!
Greetings from Germany! Ciao. Simon.

One of the screen caps (in 'Episode Guides' at the main site) from this story shows Anthony Lewis, who later appeared in Emmerdale. Last year, I sent him an e-mail with a link to the screen caps and he seemed to be pleased to see them. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the e-mail he sent me. Anyway, I just thought you'd like to know that he's visited this site. He only had a small part in Cracker, I don't think he even speaks in it. Here he is (bottom left)...

Cheers for posting that Trevor - it's really good to know he looked at the site!! I know the actor who played that kid's dad in 'Best Boys' signed my guestbook funnily enough a while ago! I definitely recognise him from Emmerdale too....

Watching them in order on the ABC, so this is my first Paul Abbot... I can definitely see why he's less popular than Jimmy McGovern. But that said, I still enjoyed this story. As Simon says, the story is brilliant from the killer's perspective, with incredible performances by John Simms and Liam Cunningham.
But, well, none of the cops are really given anything to do and Fitz is pretty much tied up in subplots for half the story.
And also the ending - I know, it was sad, but I felt there was something predictable and deliberate about it... I mean, this is CRACKER so a tragic ending really isn't that much of a surprise.
But I think part of this is the brilliance of the other scripts. If this had appeared in any other series it probably would be a classic.

My Cousin stars in this episode, played the part of Brian Nash.
I loved Cracker and would really like to see some new episodes made, wonder whether Robbie would be interested in reprising his role of Fitz?

This was on ITV3 tonight - watched it a few hours ago..
It's on every night now, as they used to only show it every now and again.
Felt sorry for the Nash boy getting shot at the end at the fairground as he wouldn't have really hurt the woman or kid. It's not the best storyline, but that large woman who gets attacked at the start (see these feet, I'm Sandie Shaw) was actually funny. It's a rather boring two episodes after all the great things that came before it, but things would pick up for the last official storyline in 'True Romance'
These Cracker episodes were boring and nothing much happened apart from Nash going after his foster parents and the Stuart Grady character looking angry or depressed most of the time.

This was on again a day or two ago but only caught the end of the second part. (I know it back to front having seen it many times)
Yes I was hard on it before but it's at least better than some of the other storylines. The Grady and Nash characters actually work very well together and as before, it's a pity that Bill got killed at the end. John Simm was a relative unknown at the time, long before his Life on Mars time, and actually blossomed into a very capable actor. The other never really made it further but I've seen him featured in one or two film releases since these episodes.

Some amazing shots and scenes in this. I love the scene on top of the building with the coke can, the hot with the washing in the canal and the scene where Nash is outside his foster parents home.

This is (I'm sure) the penultimate storyline before True Romance in the original series and looking back now, it just seems so out of place with what's come before it and even the final aforementioned storyline.
Whatever was said before, the Grady and Nash double-act / partnership, just didn't seem to work and some of what they got up to seems so far fetched from hindsight. Yes it's only a fictional series and we're not supposed to take it TOO seriously but some of the two episodes viewing seemed too far detached from the gritty realism of previous storylines. If I can recall correctly Fitz hardly featured in these episodes or any other characters from the Manchester Police (apart from the Fairground climax), it was all the John Simm and Cunningham characters who took the majority of spotlight.
ITV don't show these repeats any more, they haven't for a long time, so will watch again if the opportunity arises just to clarify any mistakes or oversights.
